The Book:

Les roses de Pere Dot

cent anys d'una familia de roseristes

Pere Dot was born in 1885 at the Torreblanca estate in Sant Just Desvern, bordering Sant Feliu de Llobregat, where he lived most of his life. The son of a renowned horticulturist specializing in fruit trees, Pere followed in his father’s professional footsteps. Over time, he chose to dedicate himself exclusively to creating new rose varieties.

In 1923, he introduced his first three rose varieties. In 1924, he won his first award at the Bagatelle competition (Paris) with ‘Margarita Riera’, a salmon-pink Pernetiana rose – sadly now lost – obtained from a cross between ‘Mme. Ravary’ and ‘Mme. Eduard Herriot’. Thus began a fruitful journey in the world of roses, carried on by his family to this day.

Pere Dot was the first in Catalonia to exclusively pursue rose breeding and opened a path that many others in the country would follow. He initiated a movement that fostered professional, institutional, and popular engagement with roses, connecting culture, society, and the profession through activities like competitions and exhibitions, as well as organizations such as the association Els Amics de les Roses de Catalunya (Friends of the Roses of Catalonia).

This book provides readers with a quick overview of the techniques and creations Pere Dot developed during his productive life dedicated to roses.
